Biography
Mandy Quan is a medical student at UCSF interested in the intersections of abdominal transplantation, regenerative medicine, and the sociotechnical infrastructures of surgical practice. Prior to joining the Komatsu lab, she trained in critical medical anthropology at Rice University. She has studied liver transplant referral infrastructures, algorithmic reasoning, and the mobilization of clinical data into transplant candidacy. Drawing on critical medical anthropology, science and technology studies (STS), and the translational humanities, her research engages the material transformations enabled by emerging biotechnologies, including how bioartificial organs and cellular therapies reconfigure chronic illness management, ethical decision-making, and surgical care
