Reimagining cell transplantation through engineered oxygen microenvironments

The Komatsu Laboratory pioneers next-generation strategies in regenerative medicine by addressing one of the most fundamental barriers in cell therapy: oxygen limitation. By integrating tissue engineering, transplant biology, and bioengineering, we design microenvironments that enable therapeutic cells to survive, function, and integrate in vivo.

Our work focuses on transforming how cell and tissue transplantation is performed, with the goal of making durable, clinically effective therapies a reality. Through multidisciplinary innovation, we aim to bridge the gap between experimental biology and real-world treatment, advancing curative approaches for diseases such as diabetes.
